RENT A  HONEY BEE HIVE

Bees arriving and departing from your own hive under a tree or beside a veranda is so soothing to watch and hear, almost hypnotic. The sound of bees, perfumes of flowers and honey floating on still evening air is magical. Hives work well on into warm nights, processing the days gathered foods.

Wild hives no longer survive here in Auckland after varroa mites infected our bee colonies.

Cold harvest on site to achieve 100% quality:

Any heat above blood temperature (hive temperature) will damage enzymes and nutrients in honey and pollen.

Water and natural honey makes very rough mead due to yeasts and enzymes in pollen that is suspended in raw honey.

We harvest three times a season:

December: honey is flavored by lavender, jasmine, manuka and rewa rewa.

February: brings Pohutukawa, cabbage tree and huge range of flowers at that season.

March: is summer honey, clover and penny royal are in that blend.

Honey is left on the hive for the bee’s winter feeding needs.

Organic Beekeeping

The main organic features for bee health on your property are:

Hives are located over the earths magnetic fields.

Our bee colonies breed their own queens to retain genetic knowledge of the area and behavior for varroa mite removal. Screen floors on the hives for the mites to fall out. Thick walled boxes of recycled Orogan timber for insulation. Entry holes on each level for enhanced ventilation and wasp proofing. Fogging with organic oil to suffocate the mites without harm to the bees.

I use no poisons!
