After seeing not one bee in the garden in spring of 2005, I decided to get some bees.
I was lucky enough to find Kerry of Beez Thingz and since then have had two hives in my garden. They are wonderful.
Kerry came around first to check the site, then brought the two hives one early morning. I watched as the 'scout' bees came out and 'cased the joint', then the rest of the bees emerged and scattered through the garden and neighbourhood where they have been ever since! I pay a small ground fee and get kilos of scrummy honey every year to give away to friends and family - and Kerry does all the work (the 'supers' full of honey are pretty heavy)! I help him if he comes to separate the honey while I am here and have learnt heaps from Kerry about bees, and chooks too. We now have some of these on the section too.
This has definitely been a good thing! The only problem I have had is with bees coming into the house in the night through open windows with the lights on - solved this easily with a fly screen on the window nearest the hive.
Without people like Kerry, managing bees professionally and organically, I think we could lose all the bees in our gardens. As it is,every flower is pollinated and I get great fruit, beans, and berries in the garden. My neighbours do too.

It's also good to know:
We harvest the raw honey on site at your hive.
That only natural, organic queens are made in our hives, we have no bred-for-purpose queens.
We can also help out with things such as swarm collection and unwanted wasp nests.
